John Neelankavil
John Neelankavil is currently serving as Librarian at the Central Library, Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, a Pontifical Athenaeum of Philosophy, Theology, and Canon Law, in Bengaluru.  He completed his Bachelor of Philosophy (Year) and Bachelor of Theology.(1997) at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bengaluru; He did his MLISc (Library and Information Science), at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
John Neelankavil was born on 19 November 1965 to Neelankavil family. He is from Peramangalam, Thrissur. He is a member of the CMI Devamatha Province (Thrissur) of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). He joined the seminary on 5 June 1985 and made his first profession of religious vows on 19 March 1988 and made his final profession on June 12 June 1995.  On 22 December 1996, at Dharmaram College, Bengaluru, he was ordained a deacon by Mar Vijay Anand Nedupuram CMI, Bishop of Chanda. He was ordained a priest in the Syro-Malabar Church on 31 December 1997 at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Peramangalam, by Mar Varkey Vithayathil, Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly.

Education
He did his lower primary at SDVHS, Peramangalam, 1981 and completed his Pre-Degree at St. Aloysius College, Elthuruth, in 1985; he secured a BA (Malayalam Language and Literature) in 1994 from Sri Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, which is affiliated to the Calicut University, Kerala.
He was Post-graduated in Library and Information Science in         2001 from Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He also did his MLISc (Regular) (Library and Information Science) in the year  2002 from Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
He did his MPhil Research in 2006 from Alagappa University, Karaikudy, Tamil Nadu;currently, he is pursuing his PhD (Library and Information Science) at Bishop Heber College (Autonomous), affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Earlier, he completed his Bachelor of Philosophy (1991) and Bachelor of Theology (1997) at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Pontifical Athenaeum, Bengaluru

Teaching Experience

John Neelankavil teaches Research Informatics in the Faculty of Philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bengaluru; he offers lectures to students pursuing their Bachelor in Philosophy and Licentiate in Philosophy. He also offers courses to students of the Department of Philosophy, Christ University, Bengaluru, especially those students pursuing BA Philosophy and MA Philosophy. He offers lectures on Initiation to Library Systems for Scholastics of St. Antony’s Friary, Bengaluru and Vidyadeep College of Theology, Bengaluru.

Administrative Engagements

John Neelankavil serves as the Director of the Centre for Environmental Studies at DVK, Bengaluru (2011- ).
With great commitment to scholarship and research, especially in library informatics, he is organizing programmes regularly, which include the flowing: Paul Wiegelmann Annual Lectures on Environmental Studies, Eco-Academy, Eco-Awareness, Programmes, Eco-Exposure Programmes, Eco-Meditation and Reforestation Programme.

 

Membership in Library Associations

John Neelankavil is the Life Member of Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC). He is also Life Member of Indian Library Association (ILA), Member of Indian Theological Library Association (ITLA), Life Member and National Organizing Secretary of Indian Library, Information Science and Knowledge Management Association (ILIKSMA).

DVK Central Library is fully computerized and has the most modern infrastructure. The functions of this library are spread over a multi-story building with forty-five thousand square feet space. Involvement in Conceptual and Functional Designing of DVK Central Library
DVK authorities accepted John Neelankavil’s concepts and functional plan of a modern library for the   present Central Library and appointed two committees for the actualization of the same. In the year of 2004 DVK Central Library commissioned with all Functions and Features of a Modern Library.
