Education
Jose
Nandhikkara studied Bachelor
of Philosophy (1986) and Bachelor of Theology (1993) at Dharmaram Vidya
Kshetram, Bangalore. In 1989, he completed Bachelor of Science (Geology) at
Calicut University, Kerala
He did his Licentiate
in Systematic Philosophy (1997) at Gregorian University, Rome, Italy. His Licentiate
thesis was “Natural Religion according to J. H. Newman.” In 1999, he did MA in Philosophy and Theology at Oxford University,
UK. His thesis title was “Religion according to Ludwig Wittgenstein.” He earned
a PhD
in Philosophy at Warwick University, UK, in 2004. His dissertation title was
Being Human from a
Religious Point of View after Wittgenstein, which he
carried out under the guidance of …..
Later Career
Jose
Nandhikkara worked in St. Xavier’s Technical Institute, Pullur (1989-1990). He was
involved in pastoral work as well as teaching in St. Joseph’s School, Mbiuni,
Kenya (1994-1995). He taught philosophy in Faculty of Philosophy, DVK,
Bangalore during 1999-2000; later, from 2004 onwards he is serves as a fulltime
teacher of philosophy at the same Faculty. He was visiting lecturer at CRI
Institute, Bangalore (2005) as well as at Kristhu Jyothi College, Bangalore (2005-2008)
and Jeevalaya, Bangalore (2005-20012). He worked at Christ University in the Department
of Philosophy from 2007 onwards. He was visiting fellow at
Department of Religious Studies, Sogang University, Seoul, in 2013. He was
visiting scholar at Centre for the Civilization Dialogue, University of Malaya
in 2014. In 2015, he was visiting fellow at Higher Institute of Philosophy, KU
Leuven, Belgium.
During 1991-1993, he was Secretary at
Centre for the Study of World Religions, Bangalore. In 2004-2007, he was Associate
Director at Centre for the Study of World Religions, Bangalore. In 2007-2015 he
was Director at Centre for the Study of World Religions, Bangalore. In 2005-2009
he was Registrar at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bangalore.
In 2012- 2015 he was the Head of the
Department of Philosophy, Christ University, Bangalore. In 2012-2015, he was
the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bangalore. In
2015-16, he was promoted to the status of Professor of Philosophy in the Faculty
of Philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram and Department of Philosophy, Christ
University, Bangalore. Currently, he is also an adjunct professor at Department
of Humanities and Social Sciences Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
He is also an International Fellow of
the Programme for Religious Leaders as Practitioners of Interreligious
Dialogue, The King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for
Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID), Vienna.
